Three decades from steel ingots to gas power

Elango Industries Limited (EIL) is a public limited company, established in 1989, listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange under scrip code 513452.

The company began by manufacturing steel ingots between 1991 and 2003. In 2005, EIL entered the power sector through its investment in Kaveri Gas Power Ltd, a special-purpose vehicle set up for gas-based generation, commissioning a 7 MW plant at Mayiladuthurai. This was followed in 2012 by a larger, 63 MW captive coal-based power plant — since 2005, the group has been predominantly focused on power generation and distribution.

EIL came to market with a public issue in 1993, raising roughly ₹2.63 crore, and is listed on the Chennai, Ahmedabad and Mumbai stock exchanges. The current equity base stands at ₹3.81 crore, held by a shareholder base of approximately 8,500, concentrated mostly in Chennai and Mumbai.

The board has led the company since its move into the power sector and continues to oversee both EIL and its group companies.

S. Elangovan

Chairman and Managing Director. A commerce graduate who began his career as a steel trader in Chennai in 1985. In 1994 he established a steel plant producing steel ingots at Karaikal, Puducherry, running it for around a decade before moving into the power sector: commissioning a 7 MW gas-based power plant at Mayiladuthurai in 2005, followed by a 63 MW captive coal-based plant in 2012. He has overseen the company's planning, operations, and technical and financial direction since.

S.A. Premkumar

Executive Director since inception, holding the same role across the group's other companies. Primarily responsible for procurement, sales and public relations.
